Red Lake County Jail Custody
Red Lake County does not house county inmates in an active jail at the courthouse. The Red Lake County Sheriff's FAQ says the county jails through Tri-County Community Corrections in Crookston, and the official facility page identifies the jail as the Northwest Regional Corrections Center, often shortened to NWRCC. The sheriff is Mitch Bernstein, and the Red Lake County Sheriff's Office remains the local law-enforcement contact for sheriff records and court-order service. Custody questions, prisoner transfer questions, and visitation questions go to NWRCC at the jail phone line, with option 3 for jail questions.
NWRCC is a Class III facility licensed by the Minnesota Department of Corrections for up to 200 inmates. It uses a direct-supervision model and has Alpha, Beta, and Delta/Omega housing units, plus a special management unit named Sigma. The regional custody setup matters because the Red Lake County inmate roster is not a Red Lake-only list. - Use District Court or state and federal custody tools when the person is not in current NWRCC custody.
The roster does not replace the court case file. A controlling charge on the jail roster can help identify why the person is held, but court filings, docket entries, hearing dates, bail orders, and dispositions are maintained through Red Lake County District Court and Minnesota Court Records Online. For court charges after arrest, the custody roster and the court case record should be read together because each source answers a different question.

Severity abbreviations on the roster help explain the level of the listed charge. The inspected sample included FE for felony, GM for gross misdemeanor, and MS for misdemeanor. Examples in the research include failure to appear charged or convicted of a felony, domestic abuse violation of an order for protection, and controlled-substance charges under Minnesota chapter 152.

When a missing field matters, use the proper fallback. NWRCC can answer many custody and visitation questions by phone. District Court Administration can address public court case records and certified copies. Tri-County Community Corrections also has a data practices route for government data that is not posted on the roster.
Red Lake County Jail Facility
The facility contact is direct because there is one regional jail for Red Lake County custody. The sheriff's local office is still relevant for law-enforcement records, but NWRCC is the custody source for the active jail roster, prisoner transfers, visitation scheduling, mail, inmate property, phone access, tablets, and money deposits. People checking an inmate should use the jail contact card first when the question is about current custody, not a court case.

Red Lake County Custody Fallbacks
A person missing from the NWRCC roster is not always free of custody. The roster may lag recent bookings because it updates weekday mornings. A person may also be in state prison, federal prison, immigration detention, U.S. Marshals custody, or another county's jail on a hold. NWRCC's roster page states it includes local county charges, state contract custody, and warrants or holds from other jurisdictions, but that does not make it a complete national locator.

Statewide criminal history is a separate source from custody. The Minnesota BCA Public Criminal History Search may show public conviction history, but it is not the same file as a jail roster or a Red Lake County District Court case record.
Red Lake County Inmate Visits
NWRCC uses Securus for video visitation. The facility states that all visits, both on-site and off-site, must be scheduled 24 hours in advance. Visitors create a free account through Securus Video Communication, submit a picture and government photo ID for approval, and then schedule the visit on the NWRCC platform after approval. Visit rules are specific. Each inmate is allowed two 20-minute on-site visits daily and unlimited remote visits daily unless the Jail Administrator or designee grants more permission. A visitor may visit only one inmate at a time. Each session is limited to two adult visitors or one adult and two small children, and visitors under 18 must be with a parent or legal guardian. NWRCC states that outstanding warrant checks and no-contact order checks are conducted on visitors, and visits may be monitored and recorded.
Note: Visitors should plan for approval time because the 24-hour scheduling rule applies before the visit takes place.
Red Lake County Inmate Contact
Phone calls, phone cards, voicemail or private mailbox, e-messaging, and tablets are handled through Securus at NWRCC. The facility states that it does not take non-emergency messages for inmates. Securus general phone and messaging support is listed as (800) 844-6591. Tablet access is a privilege based on classification and behavior, so it can change during custody.
Non-attorney calls and tablet activity may be monitored, recorded, stored, and made available to law enforcement. Attorney calls are treated as the exception in the facility's posted rules. NWRCC also states that violations of no-contact orders through phone or tablet communications are forwarded to prosecutors and law enforcement. Important: Phone, tablet, and visit contact can affect court orders when no-contact conditions apply.
Red Lake County Inmate Money
NWRCC accepts money through the facility lobby kiosk, by money order through the mail, or online through team3.inmatecanteen.com by selecting Tri County Community Corrections as the facility. Turnkey Corrections support is listed as 715-386-5700 or ICCSupport@tkc32m.com. Personal checks are not accepted.
Approved drop-off items are limited. NWRCC lists money, prescription medication, and Work Release or Sentence to Service clothing as approved drop-off categories. No other personal property is accepted unless it is for work release, Sentence to Service, or medical need. Work release and STS participants may have up to three changes of clothing stored in the facility locker. Approved drop-offs are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.
Property release requires inmate permission and an authorization form. NWRCC states that property for a released inmate is disposed of 90 days after release. That rule makes timing important when a family member is trying to pick up property after a Red Lake County inmate leaves custody.
Red Lake County Inmate Data Requests
Some Red Lake County inmate records require a data request because the public roster is intentionally narrow. Tri-County Community Corrections maintains a Data Practices page and a data request form and classification schedule index for government data not posted online. A written request is the better route for records that are not active-custody questions and not court case records.
The Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, Minn. Stat. ch. 13, presumes government data are public unless law classifies them otherwise. Court case access follows separate Judicial Branch public access rules, including Rule 8 for remote access. That split is why a jail roster, a sheriff record, a court docket, a BCA history, and a DOC custody record may all show different parts of the same person's path.
